LESSON 4 · End the Power Struggle

When Systems Break Down

Every system fails sometimes. Illness, travel, weekends, and hard days will derail your routine. The goal is not perfect adherence — it is having a structure to return to. When the system breaks:

  • Skip the guilt: "We missed our routine — let's pick it up tomorrow"
  • Simplify: during hard weeks, keep only the three most important items
  • Rebuild together: "Our morning chart isn't working. What should we change?"

Children who help redesign the system invest in its success. A seven-year-old might say "Can I do teeth before breakfast?" — and that small change might end your biggest morning battle.
