Parent guilt whispers constantly. Not enough time. Not enough patience. Too much screen time. The wrong lunch. Guilt is not evidence that you are failing. It is evidence that you care deeply about doing a good job.

But guilt becomes toxic when it stops being a signal and starts being a permanent state. Healthy guilt says "I yelled today — I want to do better." Toxic guilt says "I always yell — I'm terrible." One is a course correction. The other is a prison.
