LESSON 1 · Calm Home, Happy Family

Routines Are Not Control

Routines get a bad reputation as rigid. But a good routine is the opposite of micromanagement. It is a system that runs itself, so you skip the fifty morning instructions.

Think of routines as autopilot for daily life. Pilots do not steer every second of a flight. They let autopilot handle the predictable parts so they can focus when something unexpected happens. Your morning routine is autopilot. The tantrum at 3 p.m. is when you need to be fully present.
