Clearing the Confusion

Somewhere the message got distorted, and parents began believing that gentle means never saying no, never setting limits, never letting your child be uncomfortable.

That is not gentle — it is negligent.

The child with no boundaries is not free — they are anxious. Children need to know where the walls are. Walls create safety. Gentle parenting builds those walls with kindness instead of fear:

  • Setting firm limits with empathy
  • Saying no while validating the disappointment
  • Being the calm authority, not the absent one
