What to Stop Saying

Stop saying "Be careful" on every playground visit. It signals that the world is dangerous and that they are not capable.

Stop saying "Don't cry." It teaches emotional suppression, not emotional regulation. Try "That really hurt" or "You're having a big feeling" instead. Naming the emotion validates the experience while implicitly communicating that feelings are manageable, not dangerous.
