LESSON 3 · Talk So Kids Will Listen

Timing Beats Wording

The worst time to ask is the moment you want answers — right after pickup, mid-transition, or when you're tense.

Bedtime is golden. A child stalling lights-out will often tell you things they'd never volunteer at dinner. It isn't manipulation — it's just the easiest conditions for honesty: the room is dim, no one is looking them in the eye, and the day is finally winding down. Stay close, keep your voice low, and let them lead.
