Making Practical Choices

Here is a balanced approach to the organic question:

  • Eat more produce regardless — conventional fruits and vegetables are overwhelmingly safe and nutritious
  • Wash all produce — this removes most surface pesticide residues whether organic or conventional
  • Use the Dirty Dozen as a guide if budget allows — strawberries, spinach, and apples tend to have higher residues
  • Do not pay organic premiums for packaged foods — organic chips are still chips.
