Static Stretching Before Exercise

For decades, touching your toes before a run was gospel. Then research dismantled it.

This does not mean stretching is useless. It means the timing and type matter enormously. Pre-exercise, dynamic stretching — controlled movements through full range of motion like leg swings, arm circles, and walking lunges — prepares muscles for activity without reducing performance.
