Where Tailoring Counts

You do not need to alter everything. Three zones do almost all the work:

• Sleeve and trouser length. Sleeves to the wrist bone, hems with a clean break.
• Waist suppression. A slight nip on jackets and shirts kills the boxy look.
• Shoulder fit. The one thing a tailor cannot easily add later, so buy for the shoulders.

A jacket with a lightly shaped waist looks instantly more luxurious than one hanging straight. Spend your tailoring budget here first.
