Beyond the Five: Fabric

The five things above are the spine. Two habits drive every choice underneath them, and the first is fabric. Professional stylists know fabric quality is visible from across a room. Cheap polyester has a plastic sheen, while natural fibers like cotton, wool, linen, and silk have a depth and movement that synthetics cannot match.

This does not mean spending hundreds. Quality cotton often costs the same as cheap polyester. The trick is reading fabric labels and choosing natural fibers or good blends over pure synthetics. The exception: performance synthetics built for athletic wear or wrinkle-free travel, which look right in their intended context.
