LESSON 1 · The Body-Confident Wardrobe

Proportion Over Size

The most important idea in body-confident dressing is that proportion matters more than size. Someone in well-proportioned clothes looks more put-together than someone in poorly proportioned ones, whatever the size on the label. This is not motivational talk; it is visual reality.

Proportion is the relationship between your clothes and your body. A top that ends at the widest point of your hips emphasizes width, no matter your size, and moving that hemline up or down changes the whole effect. Learning your best hemline points for tops, jackets, and skirts is what makes a garment look right on you.
