The Hourglass Advantage

An hourglass shape has shoulders and hips in rough balance, with a waist that curves in clearly between them. Here is the quiet advantage: this is the shape most clothing patterns are drafted around.

Your job is not to find flattering clothes. It is to dodge the ones that quietly cancel out your shape. The real challenge is boxy or oversized pieces: they bury the inward curve at your waist, and once that line disappears, the eye reads your whole frame as one wide block. The waist is the asset.
