Prevention in Practice

Most bites have warning signs before the final moment. Your job is to read the early chapters before the last page. Three habits do most of the work:

  • Watch the quiet signals — lip licking, yawning, and freezing come long before a growl.
  • Supervise kids and dogs — children are often at higher risk because they miss the signs.
  • Leave an exit — a dog with a clear path out rarely needs its teeth.
