How Trust Breaks

A dog trusts you when life is predictable. Trust breaks when that prediction fails. A hand that used to bring treats now delivers a slap. A calm home turns chaotic after a move, a new baby, or a tense breakup.

Broken trust shows up in the body before it shows up in behavior. Watch for flinching at hand movements, avoided eye contact, hiding, freezing, and snapping when startled. None of this is a personality flaw or stubbornness. These are survival responses from a dog bracing for something bad.
