LESSON 5 · Socialize Like a Star

Why Dogs Hate Grooming

Most grooming resistance comes from negative first experiences. A puppy restrained for a nail trim while whining learns that grooming involves fear and loss of control. Each session builds on the last, creating a dog that panics the moment it sees the clippers.

Touch sensitivity plays a role too. Paws, ears, and the tail area are neurologically sensitive zones for many dogs. Handling these areas requires desensitization before grooming tools ever appear. Rush the process and the dog fights harder next time.
