Five Things to Cover

Good socialization spans five buckets: people, animals, places, surfaces, and sounds.

• People: different ages, sizes, skin tones, hats, uniforms, and walking aids
• Animals: vaccinated friendly dogs, calm cats, and other species from a safe distance
• Places: cars, stairs, elevators, vet rooms, quiet parks
• Surfaces: grass, tile, gravel, metal grates, wet ground
• Sounds: thunder, sirens, the vacuum, fireworks — played softly at first, then a little louder as your puppy stays relaxed
