Teaching the Reverse Walk

Start with no words at all. Stand facing your dog and take one slow step toward them. Almost every dog steps back to keep a comfortable gap — that instinct is doing the work for you.

Attach the word as the dog steps back: say "back" just before movement, then shrink your body cue until the word alone sends them several steps away.
