Building the Hold

A quick tap is cute, but handling needs a paw that stays put. Once the paw lands cleanly, gently close your hand around it for one second, then mark and reward.

Shake hands you a second trick almost for free. Turn your palm so it faces the dog like a stop sign, hold it a bit higher, and ask for the paw.
