LESSON 4 · Tricks That Impress

Take It, Anywhere

A dog that takes one favorite toy has learned one trick. To make "take it" a real cue, spread it across objects. Move up in steps:

  • Favorites first: a loved toy, rope, or ball, which already pull the dog in.
  • Neutral next: a wooden spoon, a folded towel, an empty bottle.
  • Useful last: a leash, keys, a TV remote with the batteries out.

Each new object the dog takes on cue widens what the word means. If they refuse a boring item, go back a step and add value before pushing on.
