LESSON 4 · Forces You Feel Every Day

Metal's Cold Lie

Touch a metal doorknob and a wooden door in the same room. The metal feels colder — but they're the exact same temperature. Your senses are lying to you.

Here's what's actually happening: metal is an excellent thermal conductor. It pulls heat from your warm hand quickly, so your skin cools fast, and your brain reads that fast heat loss as "cold object."

Wood is a poor conductor. It draws heat slowly, so your skin stays warm. Same temperature, different sensation.
