A large freshwater fish, in Inuktitut
The fossil was found on Inuit land in Arctic Canada, so the team asked local elders to help name it. **Tiktaalik** means a big shallow-water fish in Inuktitut. The creature itself was a true in-between: fish scales and gills, yet wrist-like fin joints and a neck.
