Calling In Reinforcements

Some airborne signals do more than warn — they summon help. When certain leaves are chewed, the volatile compounds they emit attract parasitic wasps that hunt the very caterpillars doing the damage. The plant cannot fight back directly, so it calls in a predator to do the fighting for it.
