When Zeros Mean Something
In a measurement, the zeros at the end are not decoration — they are a claim about precision. Writing a length as 2.50 meters says you measured down to the centimeter and found nothing there. Writing 2.5 meters only promises accuracy to the nearest tenth.
So 2.5 and 2.50 are equal as plain numbers, yet they tell a scientist two different stories about how carefully the value was measured.
