Living Underwater
The idea of permanent underwater habitats is no longer science fiction. In the 1960s, Jacques Cousteau's Conshelf experiments proved humans could live and work at depth for weeks. NASA uses the Aquarius Reef Base off Florida to train astronauts in an environment that simulates space.

Fabien Cousteau (Jacques's grandson) spent 31 days living underwater in Aquarius in 2014. New projects aim to build deeper, more permanent habitats. The challenge is not just pressure — it is cost, oxygen supply, and the psychological strain of long-term isolation in a confined, dark space.
