Outer space
Muons are born when cosmic rays from deep space smash into the top of Earth's atmosphere. They shower down constantly, day and night, for free. Detectors placed inside the pyramid simply count how many make it through. Fewer muons in one direction means denser stone; a sudden surplus reveals an empty space.
