Because the corral was the nearest landmark, not the actual site
The shooting happened in a cramped lot beside Fly's Photography Studio, which sat near the corral's rear entrance. Newspapers reached for the closest recognizable name, and it stuck. The man who took some of the only known photos of the dead men ran the studio right next door.
