LESSON 6 · Rise & Fall of Rome
It Didn't Really End
The phrase "fall of Rome" is misleading. Roman culture, law, language, and religion didn't vanish overnight. They transformed.
- Latin evolved into French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian
- Roman law still forms the basis of most European legal systems
- The Catholic Church preserved Roman administrative structures for centuries
- The Eastern Empire kept calling itself Roman until 1453 CE
Rome didn't fall like a building collapsing. It dissolved like sugar in water — vanishing as a political entity while flavoring everything that came after.
