LESSON 2 · Battles That Changed Everything

From Nobody to Everything

The man who would conquer half the known world began with nothing. Born around 1162 and named Temujin, he watched a rival tribe poison his father when he was just nine years old.

His own clan then abandoned the family on the open steppe, leaving them to survive on roots, fish, and rodents. As a teenager he was captured and kept as a slave, a wooden collar locked around his neck. He escaped at night and never forgot the people who left him to die.

That childhood taught him a brutal lesson he would build an empire on: loyalty is everything, and betrayal is repaid in full.
