Forged in War
Every early setback hardened him. When raiders kidnapped his young wife Borte, he didn't grieve quietly — he gathered allies, hunted the raiders down, and got her back. Each fight taught him to plan further ahead and trust fewer people.
By 1206, he had done what no one before him managed: he united every warring Mongol tribe under one banner. They gave him a new title, Genghis Khan, meaning roughly "universal ruler."
Then he turned outward. His armies struck so fast and so hard that frightened cities often surrendered the moment they saw the dust on the horizon.
