LESSON 4 · Invisible Killers: Plagues

Four Rules Pandemics Keep Teaching

Every major outbreak drives home the same lessons:

  • Speed beats perfection — acting fast with imperfect information saves more lives than waiting for certainty
  • Trust is infrastructure — societies with high institutional trust respond faster and more effectively
  • Inequality is a multiplier — diseases hit the poorest communities hardest, then spread outward
  • Global problems need global solutions — viruses do not respect borders or politics

The rules are simple. Putting them into practice before the next crisis is the hard part.
