LESSON 6 · Icons Who Shaped History
Napoleon: The Short Man
He rose from minor Corsican nobility to Emperor of France in just 15 years, redrawing the map of Europe through military genius and political cunning. At his peak, he controlled territory from Spain to the borders of Russia.
His Napoleonic Code standardized law across Europe, dissolved feudal privileges, and remains the foundation of civil law in dozens of countries today. Even after exile and death, his administrative ideas outlived the empires that defeated him. Few losers of world wars have shaped the modern world as decisively as he did.
