Status Quo Bias
Loss aversion creates a powerful preference for the current state. Any change carries possible losses, which feel twice as painful as possible gains, so people stick with what they already have.

This explains why people stay in jobs they hate, maintain expensive subscriptions they rarely use, and resist beneficial policy changes. The known downsides of the status quo feel less threatening than the uncertain downsides of switching to something new.
