LESSON 3 · Your Irrational Brain: Behavioral Economics
Fighting Your Own Bias
Overcoming loss aversion requires deliberately reframing decisions. Instead of asking "what might I lose?", ask "what am I gaining?" Instead of focusing on what you give up, focus on what you receive in exchange.
Pre-commitment strategies help enormously. Set rules before emotions engage: sell any stock that drops 15% regardless of feelings. Cancel any subscription you have not used in 30 days. Make the decision logical before the situation becomes emotional.
The most powerful technique is inverting your perspective. If you would not buy the stock at today's price, you should sell it — regardless of what you originally paid. Your purchase price is a sunk cost. Only future value matters.
