Five forces drive the extinction crisis, but one dominates the rest. Habitat loss — converting natural land for agriculture, cities, and infrastructure — destroys the physical space species need to survive.

The rest compound: pollution, invasive species, and climate change pile onto already-stressed populations. A species losing habitat is more vulnerable to climate shifts because it cannot migrate.
