Why Recovery Worked

The eagle's rescue rests on one principle: when humans identify the specific threat and fix it, a species can rebound. The threat here was clear — DDT — so banning it removed the root cause rather than just treating symptoms.

But rebounds are rarely quick. The eagle needed roughly 35 years to recover fully, with breeding programs and the Endangered Species Act working alongside the DDT ban the whole time. Pinpoint the cause, address it head-on, and protect the species long enough for its own biology to do the rest.
