Metalwork Marvels
Celtic metalwork reached extraordinary heights. The Tara Brooch (c. 700 CE) is only about three and a half inches (8.7 cm) across, yet it carries gold filigree, glass studs, enamel panels, and interlace so fine that much of the detail can only be seen with a magnifying glass. Every surface, front and back, is decorated.

Celtic visual traditions experienced a powerful revival in the 19th century as part of broader nationalist movements. Irish and Scottish artists reclaimed knotwork and spiral motifs as symbols of cultural identity, embedding ancient patterns in modern design.
