A craze for chinoiserie — fanciful European 'Chinese' style
Rococo designers loved chinoiserie: playful, imagined visions of East Asia full of dragons, pagodas, and exotic birds. The motifs rarely matched real China, but their delicacy and asymmetry fit the style perfectly and filled fashionable interiors with porcelain, lacquer, and silk.
