LESSON 3 · Overhyped or Underrated?

Faith as Storytelling

Pi practices three religions simultaneously — Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam — to the confusion of the religious leaders in his community, who insist he must choose. Pi refuses, arguing that each religion offers a different lens on the same transcendent reality.

Storytelling and religion both impose narrative order on chaos. The choice between the two versions of Pi's survival is ultimately a choice about what kind of truth you can live with — factual accuracy or meaningful beauty.
