Huxley vs. Orwell

The comparison with 1984 is one of literature's most famous debates. Orwell feared censorship and state-imposed truth. Huxley feared that no one would want to read at all, that truth would drown in irrelevance, and that people would love their oppression.

Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death argued Huxley was the more accurate prophet: the danger is not that truth is forbidden but that it gets buried beneath noise. Both dystopias operate today — but Huxley's may be winning.
