LESSON 5 · Philosophy of Love
The Philosophical Challenge
Agape poses a genuine philosophical puzzle: can love without conditions be rational? If you love everyone equally regardless of their behavior, what happens to moral accountability? Does unconditional love reward bad behavior by refusing to withdraw affection as consequence?

Defenders argue that agape does not mean approving of everything. You can love a person unconditionally while firmly opposing their actions. Unconditional love targets the person's essential worth, not their behavior — you separate who someone is from what they do.
