The Foley Artist
Foley artists recreate everyday sounds — footsteps, clothing rustles, door creaks — in a studio because production audio rarely captures them cleanly. The illusion of natural ambient noise is actually the most carefully constructed element of any soundtrack.

Foley work reveals that "realistic" film sound is entirely artificial. Real footsteps sound flat and unconvincing on a soundtrack. Foley artists create heightened versions of reality that feel more real than reality itself.
