**Melodic Intonation Therapy** uses the fact that singing and speaking rely on different brain regions. Patients who lost speech to a left-hemisphere stroke can sometimes sing entire sentences. Former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords used it to help regain speech after a 2011 shooting.
