The Terracotta Army

In 1974, farmers digging a well near Xi'an discovered the Terracotta Army — over 8,000 life-size clay soldiers buried to guard Emperor Qin Shi Huang's tomb (c. 210 BCE). Every figure has a unique face, suggesting they may have been modeled on real individuals.
