He learned to compose like a camera
Edgar Degas studied photographs and built that look into his work: dancers cut off by the frame, tilted floors, figures caught mid-motion. Early cameras froze awkward, unposed instants, and Degas borrowed that off-balance, 'caught in the act' framing on purpose.
