Its glue bonds harder when wet
Most glues fail once water sneaks between them and a surface, but the mussel's **DOPA** glue does the reverse and sets firmly on soaking-wet rock. The mussel also keeps growing fresh **byssal threads**, so a worn or torn anchor is simply replaced.
