Science fiction does not predict technology — it predicts how technology changes human behavior. Star Trek imagined tablets and video calls, but more importantly a society where technology enables cooperation rather than conflict.
Black Mirror reversed that optimism, showing technology amplifying our worst impulses. Both views hold, because the genre's real subject is human nature under pressure, not gadgetry. As AI, genetic engineering, and climate change stop being hypothetical, the films that explored them become rehearsals for what we will have to feel.
