- Slow down: speak at a pace that allows processing across language gaps
- Check assumptions: do not read silence or directness through your own lens
- Ask open questions: "How do things usually work in your experience?" invites context without forcing stereotypes
- Watch for discomfort: unease may signal a violated norm about communication style
- Mirror their pace: matching rhythm signals respect
