The Turn-Taking Rhythm

Turn-taking is one of the most culturally variable parts of conversation. In some cultures, overlapping speech signals enthusiasm. In others, it is deeply rude.

The safest approach in unfamiliar cultural territory is to listen more and speak less. Observe how others interact before calibrating. Pay attention to pause lengths, interruption tolerance, and formality. Adapt gradually rather than imposing your natural style.
