LESSON 5 · Recover When You Lose Them

Variety as Architecture

Design format variety into your structure. Alternate between monologue, dialogue, visual, and activity so no single format lasts long enough to bore. A sample shape:

  • Minutes 0-8: presentation with a story.
  • Minutes 8-10: audience poll or open question.
  • Minutes 10-18: case study with discussion.
  • Minutes 18-20: brief partner exercise.
  • Minutes 20-28: synthesis and call to action.

Every transition becomes a natural attention reset. Tell the audience what they will gain in the first sixty seconds — that single promise is the psychological contract that keeps them listening.
