The Tipping Guide

Tipping culture varies, and getting it wrong feels awkward. In the US, tipping is usually expected: often around 18-20% at full-service restaurants, $1-2 per drink at bars, and about 15-20% for taxis or ride services.

When you are unsure, ask a local or check the bill for a service charge. If one is listed, an extra tip is optional. If not, tip by the country's norm. For exceptional service where tipping is accepted, a warm "thank you, that was wonderful" plus an extra 10% is often appreciated.
